The history of this magnificent port starts in the decade of the 60s when, Mr. Enrique Bolín, then mayor, proposes to implement an infrastructure that would allow Benalmádena to offer quality tourist attractions along with maximising this municipality historical relation of with the sea.

Initially the idea of constructing this port was received with a certain amount of incredulity due to the innovative and immense scale of the plan but with the municipal backing they managed to conquer the few obstacles that appeared little by little, not without a few vicissitudes, and constructed what is today one of the most attractive locations for sport, leisure and recreational activities of the whole Mediterranean coast

The marina of Benalmádena was born as an administrative authorization granted by the Department of Public works and Town planning of the Excmo. Town hall of Benalmádena, by agreement of the Cabinet counsel, for the construction and development of a Leisure port base or winter season on the beach of “Fuente de la salud”.
Work began the 12th of November 1972, and after varied construction phases, concluded with the opening of the port on the 9th of October, 1982. The port has been directed, from its beginnings by the Excmo. Town hall of Benalmádena although, to improve and to improve its management, in July, 1996 by agreement of the Plenary meeting, a Municipal Corporation was created.
The European Union, by means of the A.D.E.A.C., has granted Benalmádena Marina the Blue Flag of Clean beaches & Sea of Europe thanks to the quality of its services and waters. This international award has been obtained every year, uninterrupted from 1987 to the present.
