The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, greeted Charles Betty, a British citizen who chose Benalmádena as his home about four decades ago and has now celebrated a century of life. The councillor for Foreign Residents, Presi Aguilera, praised Charles Betty and commended him for his contribution 'both to Benalmaden society and to all foreign residents, as he has been an example of coexistence, generosity, and commitment to all citizens.'His passion for Benalmádena has been a guiding principle in his life, and today all Benalmadena want to congratulate him and wish him many more years of happiness.

Mr. Charles Betty Charles Betty is a British man who has resided in Benalmádena for 38 years and has just turned 100 years old (he was born on June 1, 1923). At his age, he is a highly active person who has not stopped training and engaging in the social life of his adoptive town. It should be mentioned that he received his PhD in Philosophy only 5 years ago, at the age of 95, making him the oldest graduate in the UK.

Betty was a proponent of translation services at both the Police Station and the Health Centres. He formed the Age Care Association to assist older British individuals who live in the same area as him. And it is that he adores the municipality in which he lives while not forgetting his nationality or the compatriots that live in this area of the Costa del Sol. So much so that Prince William recently awarded him the Order of the Empire British for his services to the community of British residents in Spain, particularly in Benalmádena. As an example, when Prince William asked Charles where he resided, he replied, 'in the nicest spot in the world: Benalmádena', showing off this municipality that has welcomed him with open arms beyond national borders.

Charles is also a war veteran, having fought in France during World War II, for which he was awarded the French Legion of Honour medal.
