Benalmádena has recently hosted several celebrations that reflect the municipality’s cultural richness and international coexistence.
Chinese New Year: On Sunday, 22 February, the Chinese community of the Costa del Sol gathered in Benalmádena to celebrate Chinese New Year. The event featured a colourful parade, art and dance performances, cultural workshops, and traditional Chinese cuisine, as well as raffles for all audiences. The celebration, organised by the Association of United Chinese of the Iberian Peninsula in collaboration with the Town Hall, stood out for promoting coexistence and respect among cultures.
St David’s Day: On 1 March, Plaza de la Mezquita became the epicentre of St David’s Day, organised by the Welsh community and the Plaza de la Mezquita Merchants’ Association. The event included an extensive musical programme featuring artists such as Scott Jones, Mamma Cath and Wayne Michaels, combining music, culture and solidarity. The funds raised were donated to the Children’s Oncology Volunteers Association (AVOI), reinforcing the event’s social commitment.
International Festival of Cultures: From 12 to 15 March, the Arroyo de la Miel Fairground hosted the 1st International Festival of Cultures. The event brought together gastronomy, performances and traditions from ten countries, including Germany, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Senegal and Brazil, with live shows and workshops for all audiences. This initiative allowed attendees to enjoy a cultural and gastronomic journey around the world, consolidating Benalmádena as a benchmark for diversity and multicultural tourism.
St Patrick’s Day: The Irish celebration, held in Plaza de La Mezquita, included a mass, parade, Celtic music and performances by groups such as The Celtic Dancers and Totally Folk’d. The event, promoted by the Irish Association Spain, combined tradition, gastronomy and activities for all ages, bringing together local residents, foreign residents and visitors. The celebration highlighted the municipality’s multicultural character, which is home to more than 140 nationalities and a vibrant international community.
These events, supported by the Town Hall and various associations, strengthen coexistence, integration and Benalmádena’s tourist appeal, positioning the municipality as an open and welcoming destination for residents and visitors from around the world.
