Juan Carlos Aguilar de la Serna, born in Malaga in 1962, has been painting ever since he was a child. He studies oil painting for two years with Malaga artist Robles Muñoz in the mid-80s. He is a self-taught person. It was when he was young that he started to become interest in Oriental culture, philosophy and art, specially in Taoism and Zen Buddhism, and bonsais. He practices Japanese martial arts - Aikido (he is an instructor at Ciudad Jardin sports centre, Malaga and 4th dan) and Iaido (he speaks Japanese, 1st dan). He has worked at Chinese gouache painting and Chinese and Japanese calligraphy for about 25 years.
