There are two types of paper used to make ‘magic’ dolls, the dark paper ones are called ‘devils’ and represent bad spirits; and the light paper dolls represent the good spirits and the people who make the promises. The indigenous world is full of spirits that humans have to live in harmony with. That’s why they make offers with cut out amate paper so as to be healthy and have good crops. Also, amates are painted in lively colours, with Mexican daily life scenes. Opening hours: from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:30 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 19:00, Sundays.
