CHRONOLOGY


1938
She was born in Ceuta.
During her childhood, she lived in different Moroccan towns: Ketama, Arcila, Tangiers, Alcazarquivir, Larache...


1949
She registered at Tangiers high school and started to have drawing lessons from Julio Ramis.


1953
She moved to Gerona with her family
She started to learn about painting with watercolourist Jaime Roca Delpec.


1954
She registered at the fine arts school Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Jorge of Barcelona.
She became an apprentice at sculptor Backelaine’s workshop.


1956
Her family went back to Ceuta.
She studied ceramics at Massana school, and then she met Angelina Alós. She run an industrial ceramics workshop under Alos supervision for some time.
She took part at the 1st Exhbition of students of the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge «Círculo de Estudios» of Barcelona.
She took part at the 10th Art Exhibition of the Obra Sindical de Educación y Descanso of La Coruña.


1958
She exhibited pottery at Galería Artesanía Española de Barcelona.
She was awarded with the sculpture prize Cicle Aristides Maillol of the Instituto Francés in Barcelona, which implied a grant for her to study in Paris.


1959
She travelled to Paris to study at Grande Chaumi»re, with sculptur Ossip Zadquine.
She exhibited at Sala Velasco in Barcelona with Susan Gray and Julio Bono.
She exhibited paintings and sculptures at Sala Decar of Bilbao.
A few drawings of Ceuta that she made were published in El Faro de Ceuta paper.


1960
She moved to Ceuta to teach at the local high school.
She started a series of figures of transparent structures where emptiness was an essential element of sculptural matter.
She exhibited at Centro de Hijos of Ceuta.
She exhibited a series of religious paintings and sculptures at Sala de la Caja de Ahorros de Ronda of Málaga.
She exhibited 21 oil paintings at «El Mañana» nightclub of Torremolinos.
Some of her paintings and sculptures were exhibited at the room of the Palacio Provincial Fernando El Católico of Zaragoza.


1961
She exhibited 6 sculptures and 17 oil paintings together with Mariano Cariñena at Sala Decar of Bilbao.
She exhibited at exhibition room of Torrelavega County Council.
She presented 5 sculptures, 16 oil paintings, 17 gouaches and a tapestry at Ateneo Jovellanos of Gijón.
On the occasion of her exhibition at the high school of Ceuta, a supplement written by Antonio Aróstegui was published. She showed 32 paintings and 33 sculptures.
She exhibited at the Las Columnas bookshop of Tangiers and at the exhibition room of Gerona County Council.


1962
She was awarded with the 1st prize to her work «Segador» at the 1st national contest of plastic arts organized by Malaga Town Hall.
She exhibited at the 6th May Exhibition of Barcelona.
She took part in the 3rd International Painting and Sculpture Grand Prix at «Salón Bosio» of Montecarlo.


1963
She took part in the 4th International Painting and Sculpture Grand Prix at «Salón Bosio» of Montecarlo.


She exhibited at Sala del Prado del Ateneo of Madrid.
She exhibited at the Central Library of Barcelona.
She took part at the national fine arts exhibition of Barcelona.
She got married and moved to Germany.


1964
She exhibited at the Städtische Galerie Schloss Oberhausen, (Germany).
A room was fitted out for her at the Galerie Anne Becker of Frankfort during a Picasso exhibition.


1965
She exhibited at the Assindia Galerie of Essen.
She exhibited at the Buchhan Galerie of Dusseldorf.


1966
She came back to Spain and settled down in Malaga.
She took part at the national fine arts exhibition of Madrid.


1967
She exhibited at the gallery of the Caja de Ahorros de Antequera in Malaga.
She made an sculpture exhibition at El Bosco gallery in Madrid.
She exhibited at Kalos gallery in Saragossa.


1968
She took part at the national fine arts exhibition of Madrid.


She exhibited at Hotel Alay of Torremolinos.


1969
She took part in the 1st Independent artist fair Organized by the Caja de Ahorros de Antequera in Malaga.
She exhibited at the Aenne Abels Galerie of Cologne.
Mülhein municipal museum purchased her work «Niña peinándose en una silla».
In October, she exhibited in Malaga, in the exhibition room of the Caja de Ahorros y Préstamos de Antequera.


1970
She took part in Muestra Malaga 70 exhibition, Organized by Malaga County Council, together with sculptors Miguel Berrocal, Reed Armstrong, Bayard Osborn and painters Francisco Morenno, Pepe Bornoy, Francisco Hernández, Manuel Morales, Eugenio Chicano, Jorge Lindell, Stefan von Reiswitz, Enrique Brinkmann, Gabriel Alberca, Francisco Peinado, Manuel Barbadillo, Robert McDonald, Alberto Escriña, Antonio Jiménez, Rafael Bejarano, José Díaz-Oliva, Marina Barbado, Concha Barreto, Manuel Blasco, María Pepa Estrada and Rafael Cobos.
She took part in the 3rd International Exhibition of Pequeño Bronce of European Sculptures held in Madrid.
She was selected to represent Spain in the 8th International Biennial exhibition of Alexandria, and was awarded with the third prize.


1971
She took part in the 3rd International Sports Biennial of Fine Arts of Barcelona, and was awarded with the second prize to her sculpture «Luchadores».
She exhibited at D´eent gallery in Amsterdam.
She exhibited at Nova gallery of Torremolinos, together with Lindell, Orlando, Barbadillo, Stefan, Morales, Bornoy and Brinkmann.


1972
Her monument dedicated to tourists, called «Pareja tomando el Sol» (couple sunbathing), and purchased by Benalmadena Town Hall, was officially opened.


1973
She took part in the 4th International Sports Biennial of Fine Arts of Barcelona and Madrid.
The museum of Toluca (Mexico) purchased her bronze sculpture called «Mujer sentada».


1974
She exhibited at Galería Múltiple 4.17 of Madrid.


1975
She exhibited 25 sculptures at Fauna’s gallery of Madrid. José Hierro classified them as ‘primitive idols’.
The journal Reseña published an article on her work written by Paloma Esteban.
She took part in the «La mujer en la Cultura Actual» exhibition held at Palacio de Fuensalida of Toledo.


1976
She exhibited sculptures, paintings and tapestries in «Matisse» gallery of Barcelona.


1977
for the first time ever, she exhibited a series of pottery works at Gorem gallery, of Madrid.


1978
She started to explore volume using new materials like polyester and artificial stone.
She exhibited her pottery works again at the exhibition room of Caja de Ahorros y Préstamos de Antequera, in Malaga.
She took part in the «Homenaje a Groucho» exhibition of Fauna’s gallery, in Madrid.
Art reviewer and poet Luis López Anglada publisshed a large review on her work in La Estafeta Literaria.
She was invited to the 1st Triennial of Sculpture of Paris.


1979
She exhibited at the Sala Anexa de Exposiciones of the Caja de Ahorros Municipal of Vigo.
She exhibited at Fauna´s gallery, in Madrid.
In issue No. 63 of Bellas Artes journal, art reviewer Francisco J. Sánchez Ortiz published a through article on her sculptural works.


1980
She started to explore volume using new materials like polyester and artificial stone.
She exhibited at Malaga professional architects association, together with Machú Harras
She exhibited at Sala Municipal Puebla Lucía of Fuengirola.


1981
She exhibited at Museo de Málaga una muestra antológica de su obra.
She exhibited at Manuela Vilches gallery of Malaga.


1982
She took part in Arco ’82 together with Enrique Brinkmann, through Manuela Vilches gallery.
Malaga Town Hall ordered a sculpture to place it in front of La Rosaleda football stadium.


1983
She exhibited at the exhibition room of Los Monteros hotel, in Marbella.
She took part in the 7th International biennial Arts exhibition of Marbella.
She became part of the Colectivo Palmo association of Malaga.


1984
She exhibited at The Hastigns Gallery of New York.
Madrid contemporary art museum purchased her Familia sentada sculpture, currently part of Reina Sofia museum.
She made an exhibition at El Corte Inglés of Málaga, together with seven Mlaga artists.
Her sculpture called Lucha Libre, exhibited at the The Hastigns Gallery, was purchased by Guggenheim Museum of New York.
Her book titled Elena Laverón o el vuelo de las formas, griten by art reviewer Antonio Abad, was presented at Colectivo Palmo office in Malaga.
The Danforth Museum of Art Massachusetts purchased her work called Maternidad sentada con ropaje.
The Hispanic Society of America purchased one of her works too.


1985
A series of sculptures were exhibited outdoors at the Crown Jewel of Perimeter Center of Atlanta (USA), which were purchased by Charles S. Ackerman, president of Ackerman & Co. foundation.
Malaga County Council purchased a bust of King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
She was awarded with the 1st sculpture prize of the 8th Art Biennial exhibition of Marbella.


1986
She exhibited –together with Consuelo Gómez, Machú Harras, Soledad Sevilla, Cristina Iglesias, Eva Lootz, Ángeles Marco and Susana Solano- at the old San Agustín school of Malaga, where the Faculty of Arts is located. It was organised by Malaga County Council.


1987
Manuela Vilches gallery of Marbella showed her most recent works.


1988
She took part in Arco ’88 with Manuela Vilches gallery.


1989
She exhibited at Cruz Herrera gallery of La Línea (Cadiz), together with Mexican painter Felipe Orlando.


1990
She exhibited at Afinsa gallery of Madrid.


1991
She worked in several sculptures ordered for Seville Expo 92.


1992
Six of her sculptures were selected for the United Nations pavilion at Seville Expo’92, together with works by Rufino López and Pedro Llorente Brieva.
She exhibited at Nova gallery of Malaga, together with Miguel Berrocal, Francisco Hernández, Manuel Mingorance, Palma Burgos and Revello de Toro.


1993
An itinerant exhibition was organized by Caja de Salamanca y Soria around the following Spanish cities: Palencia, Zamora, Valladolid, Salamanca and Ávila.
On the occasion of the closing of the UNESCO General Conference, where Federico Mayor Zaragoza was relected, her superb bronze sculpture Pareja Sentada was installed at the UNESCO Bonvin building, together with works by Chillida, Moore, Giacomettti and Joan Miró.
Her sculpture work called Familia was placed at La Colina crossing, in Torremolinos.


1994
Her sculpture called Nacimiento de Eva was purchased by Torremolinos Town Hall and was placed in La Nogalera.


1995
She exhibited at 4.17 gallery of Madrid.
She exhibited at Art Miami’95, together with José Luis Sánchez, Órculo, Paco Barón, Beatriz Kohn, Carlos Evangelista, Rafael Mayor, Gaudí Esté and Armando Villegas, in the great stand of 4.17 gallery.
She was invited by the Official Chamber of Commerce or Ceuta, together with producer Luis Calvo Teixeira.
Televisión de Galicia channel showed a documental on her sculptural works.


1996
Her sculpture called El Marengo was officially opened in Huelin quarter, Malaga.
A series of her latest works in marble, polyester and bronze were exhibited at the exhibition room of the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País of Málaga.
She exhibited at the exhibition room of Malaga County Council.


1997
She exhibited at Harpe gallery, of Marbella, together with painter Felipe Orlando.


1998
She exhibited at Art Miami’98, in the International Art Fair of Caracas and the New Yor fair.
She exhibited at Diana Traficante gallery, of Naxos (Sicily).


1999
Her sculpture Monumento a la Convivencia was placed in Plaza de los Reyes of Ceuta.
An outdoors exhibition of her works was opened in Balcón de Europa, of Nerja.
She ttok part in Art Miami’99.
She exhibited at Heller gallery, in Madrid.
During the opening of La Muralla museum of Ceuta, she exhibited a series of large sculptures outdoors.
The book-catalogue titled Elena Laverón. Obra escultórica, was published by Ediciones Séller. It includes reviews by Antonio Aróstegui, Rosario Camacho Martínez, Antonio Abad, Rosa Martínez de Lahidalga, Luis G. Candamo, Javier Rubio Nomblot, J. A. Mellado, Fernando Caballero, Francisco Sánchez-G. Ortiz and Luis Calvo Teixeira.


2000
She took part in ARTEXPO of Barcelona.
She took part in the International Art Fair de Palm Spring.
She was awarded with a public competition to make a monument to organ donors.


2001
She took part in ARTEXPO of Barcelona and the International Art Fair of Palm Spring.
Her monument called Monumento al Donante was placed at Plaza de la Solidaridad of Malaga.
She took part in the collective exhibition organized by APLAMA (Asociación de Artistas Plásticos de Málaga) with «Presencias III. Esculturas del silencio».


2002
She took part in Art Miami exhibition and the International Art Fair of Palm Spring with Kreisler gallery.


2003
Spanish bank UNICAJA organized two anthological exhibitions, one in El Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos of Cordoba, and another one in Centro de Arte Museo of Almería.


2004
She was interviewed by Pablo Bujalance in Málaga Hoy on September 25, 2004.


2005
Her sculpture called Figura en tres módulos, with 10 tones of weight and 15 meters high –a project by the University of Malaga- was placed at the roundabout of boulevard Luis Pasteur, in Teatinos university campus.
She was interviewed by Elena Gálvez in El Mundo paper, on October 22, 2005.
She was interviewed by Berta González de Vega in Málaga Hoy, on Novermber 13, 2005. She explained her aesthetic approach.


2006
She was invited to the 3rd Sculpture Trienal exhibition held in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland), where she showed three large bronze sculptures.
La Asociación de Artistas Plásticos de Málaga (APLAMA) association awarded her with their gold medal, an act presented by art reviewer Antonio Abad.
