Location : Centro de Exposiciones
Malaga-born artist of international prestige, who started to paint at an early age in an autodidactic way. From Impressionism to Surrealism, from Expressionism to sobriety, from passion to mystery… The intensity of colours and the topics of his oil paintings contrast with the fineness of his sculptural works.
The aim of this exhibition is, going through his last stages, to get into the dimension of his work, showing the techniques and elements of his imaginative and symbolic language.
As Tomás Paredes, organizer of this exhibition, explains in the catalogue: For Jimenez, Blue is the colour of the space, of thought, it has dream cadences. It emerges from the reality that surrounds it to become a hyper-real entity as well as an existential nature. "Blue is the flavour of surrealist artists, where amoebas swarm as well as all that world of subconscious I was pervaded with", the artist adds.
Red, magenta, primary colour, shed blood colour, means passion, intensity, search for fire. It is a symbol of the live and burning senses, active senses. For Jimenez, "red is the delirious colour, it is the colour of vehemence and homesickness, where seeds revive the massacre and tyranny of the Bestia". Mars’ attribute, revitalizing, recovering, regenerating element.
White, an addition of the three primary colours. It means the whole, the synthesis. White is a symbol of the whole, of the pristine, the pure…White is assimilated to gold, to androgynous, to deity. Whiteness means heavenly state and expresses wish to be near that state. For Jimenez, "white is the colour of purity and innocence, where pearl kisses are undressed, where eyes and hallucination coincide, the excitement of limpid air hands".
