Gonzalo Infante and Pedro Machuca are two eleven-year-old boys who live in Santiago; the former lives in a well-off neighbourhood and the latter in a humble village illegally settled, a few blocks away. Both boys are separated by a great invisible wall which some wish to knowck down in an attempt to make the dreams of a time full of revolutionary hopes come true. One of these dreamers is father McEnroe, the principal of a private religious school, who, with the support of some parents, admits in this elitist school children of families with a low income; his intention is that they learn to respect each other. This is how Pedro Machuca is in the same class than Gonzalo Infante and a nice friendship strikes up between them, full of surprises and discoveries. Apart from the objective difficulties of this attempt to integrate the boy, there are those resulting from the open social confrontation Chilean society lives…
