FRIENDS OF HISTORY. Roman Christmas, Aztec Christmas: Syncretism in the Winter Solstice Festivities
5:30 PM
Long before Christmas, for cultures around the world, the winter solstice was the most important time of the year, a celebration in which gifts were given and lights were lit to ward off the darkness. We will learn about the Roman origins of our Christmas celebration and how it was exported to Central America, merging with Aztec customs. We will conclude with an explanation of our Mexican-inspired Nativity Scene at the Museum.
