The misunderstanding of the last queen of Egypt began long before Hollywood's reinterpretations. Contemporary and later Greco-Roman authors created a 'black legend' about Cleopatra VII for political reasons, presenting her as a kind of femme fatale of Antiquity.

Daniel Alonso Naranjo, a doctoral candidate in Egyptology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), will guide us through the context of Hellenistic Egypt, analyzing the true biography of the monarch, reconstructed from Greek, Egyptian, and Latin sources. He will also discuss the much more benevolent view of her that persisted in the eastern Mediterranean and the Arab world, the controversy surrounding the queen's ethnicity, and the question of the location of her tomb.
